Rainforest mural

Abbotsford, Melbourne
2018

The owners of this architecturally-designed home in inner-city Melbourne were well aware the exterior of their home left a lot to be desired. The inside – amazing. The outside – well, let’s just say if you were a graffiti tagger, it was prime real estate. They approached Written and Illustrated with an open brief, telling us we were free to do whatever we wished with their drab wall. Talk about a dream job! We went all out, pitching a floor-to-sky rainforest mural, complete with flying crane and lush foliage. Over several days Steve executed the piece using a scissor-lift to reach those out-of-the-way spots. Conveniently, when at the top, the owners were able to pop a cuppa over the wall, ensuring we were both hydrated and caffeinated while we worked. The wall still lies, untouched, a literal oasis amidst a heavily graff-bombed area. If you want to see it, head to Abbotsford and ask any of the locals for directions. Oh, and while you’re there, grab a Phở from Victoria Street and think of us.
